Raising Healthy Kids

Raising healthy kids is every parent’s goal. At the YMCA, we believe healthy kids are the foundation and future of healthy communities. We help kids grow healthier, stronger and more confident, to realize their full potential.

YMCA Canada surveyed Canadian parents about the developmental and health needs of children 6-12 years, and how parents can be positive role models during those critical years. The results are in.

The 2015 YMCA Healthy Kids Report reveals that 85 per cent of Canadian parents are finding it difficult to set a healthy example for their children. Parents surveyed stated that they are an important influence on their young children; however, only a few identified themselves as ‘excellent’ healthy role models.

The YMCA models and incorporates healthy practices into its programs and activities for children and youth year round. YMCA Healthy Kids Day places special emphasis on teaching children, youth and their families about exploring healthy living habits that will make a difference throughout the year.
