The YMCA of Niagara’s Youth Action program is for all community youth ages 9 to 14. Youth do not have to be a YMCA member to participate. Programs are offered throughout the Niagara region, and consist of three components: School Programs, Friday Night Programs and Dances. Youth Action offers youth a safe and positive environment in which they can learn new skills, participate in a wide variety of activities and socialize with friends in a safe environment, while meeting positive role models.
YMCA Youth Action programs incorporate the principals of YMCA Healthy Adolescent Development and provide youth with the opportunity to gain Developmental Assets that will help them become healthy adults, and give them the foundation to make positive life choices.
Youth Action has been offered to youth in the Niagara since 1985, and is made possible through support from the United Way of St.Catharines and District, YMCA Strong Kids, Welland Neighbourhood Association, Canadian Tire Jump Start and Port Colborne Hydro.
Youth Action School Programs
These FREE recreational drop in programs are offered throughout the week from 6 to 8pm at local school gymnasiums throughout the Niagara region. Youth Action School Program gives youth the opportunity to participate in active games, play sports, special events and more!
Note: School Program do not run on PA Days or School holidays. The last Youth Action School Drop in for this school year was June 6th.
Youth Action Friday Night Drop-Ins
Friday Nights drop-ins give youth the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including: swimming, gym games, video games, tournaments, special events, fitness, creative activities, and more! The cost is $5 per visit; 3 and 10 visit passes are available for $13.50 and $40 respectively.
Youth Action Friday Night Tournaments & Special Events
In Fort Erie, Youth Action Sports Tournaments & Special Events provide youth the opportunity to try different sports and participate in a fun, fair play environment. Tournaments & Special Events are offered most months at the Fort Erie E.J. Freeland YMCA on Friday Nights. The cost is $5 per event.
Youth Action Dances
At YMCA Dances youth can listen to the newest music, put in their requests, dance and hang out with friends and YMCA Staff, in a supervised and safe environment.
Niagara Falls, Niagara Centre, Port Colborne – Dances run from 7:00 to 10:00pm on Saturday nights, and cost $10 per youth. Advance tickets sales begin a week before the dance on the Friday, at the YMCA branch hosting the dance.
Fort Erie - Dances run from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday nights, and cost $7 per youth. Advance tickets sales begin a week before the dance on the Thursday at the Fort Erie E.J. Freeland YMCA.

Youth Club is an after school program offered at 3 schools across the region. It is a registered program open to youth from grades 3 to 6 and consists of three components: afterschool snack and nutrition based activities, personal wellness activities, and recreational and active games. This program is a progressive program over the school year and regular attendance is encouraged. There is no fee to participate in this program, thanks to funding for the St.Catharines and Niagara Falls programs provided by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and the Welland program by the Niagara Prosperity Initiative and YMCA Strong Kids.
St.Catharines – Connaught School, Monday to Friday from 3:15pm to 5:30pm
Niagara Falls – Simcoe Street School, Monday to Friday from 3:15pm to 5:30pm
Welland – St. Mary’s School, Wednesday and Friday from 3:15pm to 5:30pm
Note: Youth Club programs are not offered during school breaks or PA Days
Leaders in Action
This is a registered program open to youth in grades 7 and 8. The program begins each week with homework help, studying and a healthy afterschool snack, this is followed by a leadership activities, projects or discussions, and active games and sports in the gym.
Plymouth School – starting in January 2014 will be on Thursdays from 3:15pm to 5:15pm (Last day of program for this school year is June 12th)
